Arguably one of the most beautiful birds in the world, the Resplendant Quetzal is a must-see species on a birding trip to Costa Rica. As a result, the local guides feel the pressure to find this iconic bird for their clients. There were dozens of other birders already on site the morning we began our search for the Quetzal. Suddenly, word spread that a Quetzal was spotted lower in the valley, and we all quickly packed up. After a quick drive, we were looking at a pair excavating a nest hole - a sight that made for a lot of happy birders and some very relieved guides.
