Northern Goshawk (immature) - Beverly Shores, Porter County, Indiana - October, 2010

Goshawks have become very rare in Indiana over the past fifteen years. So it was quite a surprise when this bird appeared at Beverly Shores. We saw a large accipter being mobbed by some Crows. When it suddenly grabbed one and landed on the beach, Randy Pals walked over to check it out, and discovered that to our great surprise, the bird was a young Goshawk. It was so preoccupied with it's Crow, we were able approach close enough for some decent shots.

These photos were taken with a Canon Rebel XSi Digital Camera with a 100-400mm zoom lens.
