This interesting adult bird shows many characteristics of both Thayer's and Kumlien's Iceland Gulls. This gull shows the extensive dark upper primaries and purple orbital ring typical of Thayer's Gull. However, the pale eye and light mantle are more typical of a Kumlien's Iceland Gull. We see many gulls on Lake Michigan that, like this bird, appear to be intermediates (intergrades) between Thayer's and Iceland.
