A probable leucistic Great Black-backed Gull (adult) - Hammond Marina, Lake County, Indiana - January, 2014

This adult black-backed gull was associating with similarly shaped and sized Great Black-backed Gulls. The bird was very similar to an adult Great Black-backed, but had an obviously lighter gray mantle. The best possibility for explaining this bird's appearance is that it is an aberrant Great Black-backed gull with a leucistic plumage.

These photos were taken with a Canon Rebel XSi Digital Camera with a 100-400mm zoom lens.
