Common Pauraque - Estero Llano Grande State Park, Weslaco, Texas - April, 2013

We had heard about Pauraques being found on day roosts at Estero Llano Grande. Having never photographed this species, we set out to find one. Their camoflage was incredible, blending in perfectly with the leaf litter, so it took several minutes to find one (see photo #2 to get a sense of the challenge - can you see the bird?). Once we had the hang of it, we found three.

These photos were taken with a Canon Rebel XSi Digital Camera with a 100-400mm zoom lens.
