Boreal Owl - Sax Zim Bog and Duluth, Minnesota - February, 2013

We headed north after hearing about a Boreal Owl invasion along Lake Superior between Duluth and Two Harbors. There were dozens of birders searching the area near Stoney Point on a sunny morning without success. We finally drove towards Duluth and spotted a row of cars stopped looking at our life Boreal Owl (images 3, 4, and 5). An hour later we were driving down Admiral Road at Sax Zim Bog when Wendy spotted another Boreal right next to the road staring down on us (images 1 and 2)! Within minutes there were three bus loads of birders from the birding festival enjoying her discovery.

These photos were taken with a Canon Rebel XSi Digital Camera with a 100-400mm zoom lens.
